Q. Why should I select Encore Performing Arts as my school?
A. Encore is a diversified performing arts school offering classes in dance, drama and voice All of Encore's professionally trained instructors focus on the highest quality of instruction and have an innovative, compassionate and concerned approach to teaching. Our number one objective is to maintain a positive, fun environment and students are encouraged to grow as unique individuals as we nurture self esteem and confidence. We offer a 6800 square foot state of the art facility with professional floating dance floors which absorb shock and drastically reduce the risk of injury. We offer small class sizes giving students more personal attention. Q. Is it okay if you just want to take for fun?
A. Absolutely!! This should always be the first and most important reason for studying the arts. We realize that the majority of our students are not going to pursue a professional arts career. However, students who participate in the arts have proven to do better in school and carry many strong leadership roles in the community. The arts give you self discipline and unleashes your personal creativity. We are committed to giving all of our students the highest level of training possible because you never know what the future may hold. Q. What kinds of classes does Encore offer?
A. Our dance classes are made up of two different programs. The Preschool/Elementary program is for our younger students and also for students not wanting to make a huge time commitment. These classes consist of ballet, jazz, tap and creative movement. Our Youth Ballet Company, Preparatory Division is a unique and technically strong program designed for serious students and those deeply passionate for dance. Students who wish to have a strong technical basis in dance will love the prep program. All prep students are also members of the Encore Youth Ballet. Dance Basics (musical theatre dance) is offered for actors, singers and older beginners.
Our Drama Program offers classes in drama for students beginning at age 4. Drama classes deal with every aspect of acting: monologue, scene work, improvisation, and on camera techniques. Our voice (12 years - adult) classes are private instruction designed to develop technique and personal style focusing on pitch, breathing and musicality. Q. How are students placed in classes?
A. Encore's director will place students in a class appropriate to his/her age and ability. Students move levels at their own pace. We will never hold a student back or pressure them to move ahead before they are ready. Q. How often do students perform?
A. Performance is a big part of our mission at Encore. Dancers and actors are showcased every December in our Holiday Showcase and in June with our Annual Spring Production. Actors have an additional performance in March with our Theatre Showcase. The Encore Youth Ballet Dancers have the option of participating twice more with the Fall Ballet in September and Student Projects held in April. The Youth Ballet also perform in community demonstrations. Many of our students participate in school and community performances through out the year and Encore has been involved in many special events and benefits, such as, The Mary Anderson Legislation Day for Lee Hamilton, A Celebration of Artist, a benefit for the Arts Council, Clarksville Little Theatre Awards Night and The Benefit for Cystic Fibrosis at Louisville Gardens. Q. How often will I be able to watch class?
A. Parents are encouraged to sit in on their child's class and view the student's progress and class participation during our scheduled Parent Observations in October and February. We also have observation windows in all of our classrooms. Q. What do I need for class?
A. Dancers need a leotard and tights, pink ballet slippers and black tap shoes. Preparatory division students also need tan jazz shoes. All dancers should have their hair neatly pinned up and out of their face. Actors and singers should wear comfortable clothes that do not restrict movement. Q. When is tuition due?
A. Encore's season is divided into 2 semesters (first semester is 17 weeks and the 2nd semester is 21 weeks) with a seperate summer session. Tuition is due the first day of each new semester and a 3 installment pay plan is also available. Families with more than one child involved in our school receive a 10% discount off their total tuition. Q. What are the "hidden costs"?
A. Encore is mindful of the rising costs for families therefore we strive to keep all fees to the barest minimum. We do not have uniforms or sell shoes. There is a performance fee per semester for each student to off set production costs and costumes. All performances are presented with no admission fees. Q. Are scholarships and financial aid available?
A. Partial scholarships and work study programs are available to students who need financial assistance. Assistance is based on financial need and talent. Cost should never be a reason a student is unable to attend Encore.
